traffic’s moving mighty slow

Truckers are pissed that diesel fuel prices are higher than regular gas prices, so they’re having a protest today.

How’s that, you ask? How are they winning the hearts and minds of Los Angeles?

Well, by blocking entire freeways with their trucks, then walking away, of course.

News is still developing, so we don’t know if this is a bunch of truckers, or just a few, but it appears to be coordinated across several different freeways, including the 5, 110, and 405.

Updated @ 9:24 AM — according to the CHP: 8:48AM-S/B 110 AT 405 –APPEARS THE SLA UNITS HAVE BROKEN UP THE BIG RIG DEMO–SOME TRKS CONTINUED ON THE 110 AND OTHERS TOOK THE 405 ,LESS THEN 12 TRKS

  1. Sucks for the drivers, and it seems like an ineffective protest as far as what can get done, but in terms of power, that’s amazing. Two or three dozen trucks could easily stop movement in much of Southern California.

  2. I am so glad that I was on a plane instead of commuting during this bullshit. It is an impressive display of the potential these truckers have to bring traffic to a grinding halt, but I’m telling ya, if someone makes me sit on the freeway for hours during my morning commute when I’m already grumpy, I’m gonna bust some heads. Yo.

  3. I got caught in that mess yesterday. It took me over an hour to get to work. (a 20 minute drive) While I work in the transportation industry, I am sympathetic to their cause, but I still think they should have found another way to protest. But I’ll agree that it was impressive to see what a few trucks can do to our freeways (and streets).

  4. The same thing happened in England in our city about 2 years ago when gas prices rose and diesel didn’t. You have to make a stand at some point and for a while, even though it was a pain in the butt it felt like everyone was working together for the same cause. It worked to a point as prices haven’t increased dramatically in the last couple of years, as the government now realises if they do there will be another public outcry. The only way forward is to work together – cheesy I know!!

  5. That is strange, here in germany diesel is so much cheaper than every other gas. Everyone is so angry here because gas is so expensive at the moment, its incredible. I think its more expensive than in America. It sucks. 1,18 Euro for 1 litre. damn and I got my own car now since 2 weeks.
