Home Depot can eat my ass

Home Depot has this truck that schmucks like me can rent for $20 an hour if you need to carry something that you bought at the store and it’s too big for your own car. I need to buy some crap that I can’t carry in my own car. So I head over to the Home Depot on Wilshire and Union and the truck is sitting outside. I go to the counter and tell the lady I need to buy some crap and want to rent the truck to take to the gallery. She tells me to go get my stuff and buy it then come over and talk to her. So I head out into the store and load up a grip of plywood and 2x4s. Like, a LOT of them. I head up front, pay, and tell that lady I am going to be renting the truck so that she can charge me for it. She watches the stuff while I walk down to sign the form and get the truck, but guess what? The lady I talked to isn’t there anymore, and the new lady says the truck has been rented. What? I tell her what’s up and she informs me that it’s not really rented, it’s in use by the store and will be for the next few days. NEXT FEW DAYS??? What the shit am I supposed to do with all this wood I just bought? I Drive a VW GTI for crying out loud, I can’t carry plywood with that! She tells me there’s nothing she can do in that ever so friendly “go fuck yourself” way that is a standard feature at Home Depots nationwide. I start making phone calls. No one has a truck. I’m screwed. 30 minutes later I walk outside and the freaking truck is still sitting there unattended. The gallery is 5 minutes away, I could have been there and back already. I go in, find the lady and see what’s up. “It’s being used” “No it’s not, it’s sitting outside” “It’s in use” “Seriously, I’m telling you, I’ve been here for almost an hour and it’s still sitting outside and hasn’t been touched.” “Sorry, it’s in use.” Great. So, I’ve got $200 worth of wood sitting at Home Depot down town and no way to get it a mile away to the gallery short of spending $75 on a U-Haul. This blows.

  1. Amen…go to Lowes. Since they don’t have Menards out there, I guess that’s just a big pain in the ass. Home Depot really does bite…. I have to say..at that point, I would have returned everything. I’d say talk to a store manager too, but it’s Home Depot. They don’t give a flying fuck about the customer. Lowe’s is so much better….at least they can say “Customer Service”.

  2. Unfortunately there’s no Lowes near here and I need this shit now. Lucikly Kat wrangled a friend with a truck and we were able to go pick it up, and guess what, that fucking delivery truck was STILL parked out side, untouched.

  3. Shit, sorry I couldn’t help – although i guess we could have put the plywood in sideways through the back seat. Or maybe not.

  4. Dude, you should have just returned that stuff then and there. And when they asked why, “The bitch over in the rental dept. lied about the truck.” These people need to know what they’re doing wrong. Get the manager involved. YOU are the customer, after all.

  5. Well, that’ll teach ya not to drive cars that are so small, European, and fuel-efficient! ;)

If there’s one thing you can count on in these uncertain times, it’s that Home Depot blows and will continue to blow for the forseeable future.

  6. OK..try this…shove the plywood up your ass and the rest of the “crap” in that big mouth of yours and hoof it! If you would have rented the truck on the spot or made sure it was put on hold for you, you would have gotten the truck. I really wish my problems were as petty as yours. Grow up and buy a truck!

  7. Reading your memos I totally agree with your comments. Speaking as a current Employee they should just sell all their “load-n-gos”!!Your right most of the employees are fucking rude-stupid ass employees who can care less about the customer. But that’s the kind of employees that the greedy CEO “bob Nardelli” wants to hire. The Original owners Arthur Blank-Bernie Marcus were all for the customers. And the employees!!! Keep complaining and protesting!! hopefully they’ll get a clue.

  9. Hurricane Wilms is south of the Gulf on 10.19.05 and they wont cut plywood for my moms condo so I have to rent a truck. By the way nobody else was buying wood yet. I was only customer with pywood in that area.

  10. My dad almost got attacked by one of Home Depot’s workers. All he did was ask what tools to use, and the guy tells him “go hire a plumber!” It escalated from there, and my dad told him he wasn’t going to fight, but he wasn’t going to back down, either. This happened at the Home Depot in Westminster, California.
